AACE International’s Certified Estimating Professional™ (CEP)™ Certification Study Guide Released

AACE International is announcing the release of its Certified Estimating Professional (CEP) Certification Study Guide to the total cost management community. A publication of the AACE International Education Board, the co-editors of this 192-page study guide are William E. Kraus, PE CCE FAACE and Philip D. Larson, CCE CEP PSP FAACE.
The study guide is intended to aid aspiring candidates for AACE International’s CEP certification by summarizing the fields of study recommended for preparation for the certification examination. The guide conveniently assembles and summarizes various topics considered essential for the Certified Estimating Professional’s (CEP) knowledge, as outlined in AACE International’s Recommended Practice 11R-88, Required Skills and Knowledge of Cost Engineering, and included in the fifth edition of AACE International’s Skills and Knowledge of Cost Engineering. This text primarily uses process industry and building construction projects as the bases for presenting the knowledge, skills, and abilities required of competent cost estimators.
As a guide to study, the study guide does not provide detailed, fundamental education in cost
estimating. Those seeking the CEP credential should already know the basics and not rely exclusively on this guide. As stated in the study guide, “One expects, however, that even seasoned professionals do not routinely apply all estimating knowledge and skills on a frequent basis. Recent study of seldom-used knowledge and techniques in the months before sitting for the certification examination is prudent. This CEP Certification Study Guide enables efficient and effective preparation for the CEP examination.”
