Auction, Golf Tournament to Benefit Scholarship Fund Announced
January 26, 2012
Last year, AACE International distributed more than $80,000 in scholarships to students pursing studies in areas related to the practice of total cost management. Traditionally, support for the scholarship program has come from three sources, a $5 per member commitment from the Association, voluntary funding from sections to support scholarships in their area, and individual donations. In 2012, we will be adding two additional methods, an auction and a golf tournament, to help raise funds and recognition for our scholarship efforts.
Online and Silent Auction: Using the services of the leading charity online auction company, BiddingforGood.com, the Education Board will conduct an online auction featuring various items donated by members and others interested in supporting this worthy cause. Heading the auction fund raising effort will be Ann Marie Cox, a member of the Education Board who invites all members and interested parties to donate auction items by May 15th.
“Our online auction is seeking items such as timeshares, vacation homes rentals, sports memorabilia, wine, travel vouchers and similar items. The items donated will be described online in detail and anyone with Internet access will be able to bid when we go live in late June,” Cox explained. Cox noted that because AACE International is a 501-c-3 organization, most donations will be eligible to be considered a charitable contribution depending upon the individual’s unique tax situation. Individuals should consult their tax adviser for details.
AACE International will notify its membership and stakeholders regarding items available as the online auction launch date of approaches. Approximately 20 items will also be available for a silent auction to be held in conjunction with Annual Meeting July 8-11 in San Antonio, TX. The silent auction will use the last online bid for the item as the starting bid and will close at 8:00 pm on Tuesday, July 10 during the Tuesday Night Toast.
To donate an item, please contact Ann Marie Cox acox@arescorporation.com or (510)-788-6629. Golf Tournament: The golf tournament will be held Sunday, July 8 with an 8:00 am shot gun start on the AT&T Canyons Course at the famous TPC San Antonio, host to the Valero Texas Open and AT&T Championship. Chairing the golfing tournament event will be John Haynes. The format for the event will be a four-team scramble with no handicap. You may enter as a team or as individuals. Individuals will be assigned by random draw to a team.
A chartered bus will leave the Marriott Rivercenter, the primary convention hotel, at 6:30 am for the 45-minute trip to the golf course. The $200.00 fee includes green and cart fees, practice balls and use of the practice facility, a continental breakfast and box lunch and transportation from the Marriott Rivercenter and back. Prizes include (2) closest to the hole and (2) longest drive. The winning team will have their names engraved on the President’s Cup Trophy. The awards will be presented during the Awards and Installation Luncheon on Tuesday.
Individuals interested in registering for the golfing event may register online
or login to the Portal and click on the Annual Meeting link on the left menu. Registration for the tournament will be cut off when 72 golfers have been registered or by 4:00 pm on July 5.
