January 19, 2012 The International Cost Engineering Council has announced it is accepting applications for the 2012 ICEC Kenneth K Humphreys Awards for the most outstanding cost engineering, project management and quantity surveying papers by students or young members of ICEC member associations. The award is named in honor of former AACE International Kenneth Humphreys who was instrumental in the founding of ICEC. The awards are open to all students or young members of ICEC member associations who are aged 35 years or younger. Papers submitted man either be new papers or papers that have been previously published in industry/academic journals or other publications. For previously published papers the paper must have been published after July 2010 (i.e. since the last ICEC World Congress in Singapore in July 2010) and written permission must be obtained from the publisher. The winning papers will be included in the ICEC International Cost Management Journal (ICMJ) on the ICEC website.
Papers must be submitted to the relevant ICEC member association for review in the first instance. The ICEC member association will then determine whether the paper/s submitted are suitable for submission for the award. The paper/s must then be submitted to the ICEC Secretariat by the ICEC member association. Please note that individuals cannot submit papers directly to the ICEC Secretariat - all papers must be submitted to the relevant member association in the first instance. AACE International members should submit their papers to Marvin Gelhausen, Managing Editor at mgelhausen@aacei.org.
The 2012 Award will be presented at the 2012 ICEC World Congress being held in Durban, South Africa from 23-27 June 2012. Details of the congress can be found at: www.icec2012.org.za.
The following dates/deadlines apply for the 2012 award program:
31 January 2012 - Opening date for submission of entries to each member association
31 March 2012 - Closing date for submission of entries to each member association
30 April 2012 – Closing date for member associations to submit their selected paper/s to the ICEC Secretariat
The submitted papers will then be reviewed by the ICEC Awards Panel with the winners announced at the ICEC World Congress in South Africa. The successful papers will be published in the ICEC International Cost Management Journal (ICMJ) on the ICEC website and each author will be awarded a plaque. If the recipient is unable to attend the 2012 Congress or an ICEC Regional meeting soon after, we will ask the relevant member association to arrange for the Award to be presented at a suitable time.
