AACE International Board of Directors Withdraws Support
for proposed C3PM

May 11, 2011

The AACE International Board of Directors has withdrawn support for the proposed Certified Portfolio, Program, & Project Management Manager™ (C3PM) certification which had been in planning stages since 2006. In making the decision, the Board of Directors indicated that the proposed certification, which would have been a competency-based assessment model rather than an examination-based model used for all of the AACE International certifications, would require adding a significantly different volunteer infrastructure, validation research, and headquarters resources to administer that program alone which made continuing the development of such a program impractical given the uncertain magnitude of the potential market and the competition from other organizations offering similar credentials. The Board of Directors’ unanimous decision to withdraw its support was also supported by the Technical, Education, and Certification Boards that had expressed reservations about the certification in the past.
