Preparing for the Certified Cost Technician™ (CCT™) exam, through AACE International, just got a bit easier. A free and downloadable CCT Primer has been posted on our website. The 61-page study document is based upon and follows section one of the AACE International Recommended Practice 11R-88: Required Skills and Knowledge of Cost Engineering. These cover the core knowledge areas that the CCT certification exam questions were developed to test.
The Primer provides someone who is preparing to sit for the CCT certification exam, a detailed outline of the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully achieve this certification. In addition to the primer, other documents such as AACE’s Skills and Knowledge of Cost Engineering, 5th Edition; the TCM Framework, and other specialty texts and reference workbooks are recommended reading. A list of these resources is posted at our website.
To successfully pass the CCT exam, there will be problems that must correctly be solved. The CCT Primer does not provide example problems. Exam candidates can find some example problems in the Skills & Knowledge of Cost Engineering, 5th Edition study book. While the Primer is intended to support one seeking to successfully pass the certification exam, it cannot be substituted for one’s actual knowledge and experience in the areas being tested.
The CCT Primer is an AACE International Education Board product. Michael Pritchett, CCC CEP, served as the author in pulling together the content. Also involved in the project were Pete Griesmyer; Donald McDonald Jr., PE CCE PSP; Valerie Venters, CCC; and Larry Dysert, CCC CEP.
The Education Board is working on a scheduling primer as its next downloadable document to assist individuals in studying for one of the currently offered certifications. The just released CCT Primer is posted on the CCT certification page of this website, as the first option in the links box. It is also referenced in the listing of recommended study materials for the CCT exam.
