AACE International extends an invitation
to US veterans in its "Hire a Vet" program

MORGANTOWN, WV—AACE International, the world’s premier professional association for professionals involved in project controls invites actively serving US military personnel, (or those who have been honorably discharged within the last 12 months), seeking civilian opportunities in the field of cost engineering, to be its guest at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim on Monday, June 20.
According to Ron Winter, Chair of the AACE International North American Marketing Committee, the purpose of the invitation is to facilitate the entry of US service personnel into the civilian sector.” Many of us personally know how difficult the transition is from military service to civilian, and AACE wants to do our part in supporting the troops. This is our way of showing our appreciation for their service and sacrifices,” Winter commented.
Winter notes that for military personnel, this is an excellent opportunity to network with future peers, meet prospective employers, and earn professional continuing education credits. The session will also allow participants to learn firsthand about advanced accreditation to enhance career potential, and to attend presentations of the latest papers on cost, schedule and management during AACE’s 55th Annual Meeting in Anaheim, CA. Qualified military personnel accepted as AACE International’s guest will be responsible only for transportation, parking, and any hotel accommodations.
Fifty different companies or corporations will have booths in the AACE International Exhibit Hall. Come see the current tools being used for project controls and management and meet the companies who provide these services. Many of these companies are looking for individuals with transferable skills and experience from the military for challenging and rewarding opportunities in the areas of cost control, scheduling, and project management, to mention a few career paths.
Military participants will be met by AACE leaders during a continental breakfast to begin the networking opportunities on Monday morning. The keynote session will feature Sherron Watkins, the whistle blower who exposed the Enron scandal. After the first breakout session, participants will join AACE leaders for a beach party themed lunch in the exhibit hall.
Military participants may attend any of the nine different simultaneous tracks including estimating, cost control, scheduling, claims and dispute resolution, earned value, risk management, project owner’s issues, project management, skills and knowledge, and product showcases. AACE International plans on providing participants with informal opportunities to interact with companies seeking new hires.
For veterans unable to attend, AACE International encourages them to submit their resumes to the AACE Career Center. The resumes become part of an important source for new hiring with the cost engineering community.
