1. In order to possibly promote increased attendance, would you be supportive of a more affordable Annual Meeting registration fee scheme for the members?
Yes, I think there are a number of different approaches that the Organization can take when formulating a new registration pricing fee scheme and the approach would depend on the Organization’s goal. If the goal is to maintain a high attendee turnout at the annual meeting, then we could implement a registration fee pricing scheme that gradually decreases each year that an attendee attends an annual meeting. This approach would provide an incentivize attendees to continually attend the annual meeting. Conversely, if the goal is to dramatically increase attendance, then we could offer discounted registration fees to new attendees for the first year or first couple of years so that the attendee could experience the conference and realize truly how useful and informative the experience is.

2. How would you propose membership be increased in North America and internationally?
An approach to increasing memberships both in the North America and internationally is to increase the demand for the products and services that AACE offers. One approach to increasing demand is by convincing more owners, who are usually the party writing construction contracts, of the benefits that they will derive from having construction professionals on their projects with CCCs, CCEs, CCTs, EVPs, and PSPs, and, as a result, they would choose to include requirements in their contracts for construction professionals with these credentials.

3. What do you see as the two most significant challenges facing your position and how would you address these two challenges
The two most significant challenges that one faces in this position are: (1) assisting with the growth of the membership, or the Organization, and (2) demonstrating how the organization provides value to the industry. These two challenges are inter-related and one actually feeds off of one other and, as such, overcoming the first challenge can assist in overcoming the other. I believe the first challenge is demonstrating value to the industry, by successfully showing that the Organization provides the industry’s best practices and the cutting edge approaches to time and cost management, membership will. “If you build it, they will come.”

4. What are your thoughts on the AACE International membership category of “Emeritus”?
At this time, I don’t have an opinion on this membership category.

5. What do you see is working right with the association today; in general or specifically?
Generally, I believe that one of the many strengths of the Organization is the manner in which it adds to the industry’s body of knowledge through the development of Recommended Practices, Professional Practice Guides, the TCM Framework, Technical Articles, Discussion Groups, etc. It’s this substantial collection of knowledge, experiences, and proven technical approaches that sets AACE apart from many other organizations.

6. What do you see as needing improvement with the association today; in general or specifically?
At this time, I don’t have an opinion on elements of the Organization that need improvement today.

7. For the areas where you see the association needs improvement, how should they be addressed?
Not applicable.

8. What value to the association does the Approved Education Provider (AEP) program provide?
The value that the AEP provides relates directly with one of the challenges that I identified in Question No. 3, above. The program is the perfect example of the types of partnerships that contribute to the success of both the Organization and participating companies. This symbiotic relationship works to spread the Organization’s values and mission, while at the same time promoting the credentials and qualifications of member companies.

9. How would you propose the value of the AEP program to AACE members be increased?
At this time, I don’t have an opinion on a way to improve the value of the AEP program for AACE members.

10. What are your thoughts relative to the association expanding internationally, including into China?
As an Organization, growth and continued development of industry’s best practices should guide our path forward. As such, there is no question that expanding internationally should be our goal and we should strive to incorporate the Organization’s values and mission to assist in the unparalleled rate construction being experienced in China and other parts of the world.
