Competitive Scholarships
at the Undergraduate and Graduate Levels
AACE International is dedicated to advancing the
study of cost engineering, and cost management through the integrative
process of total cost management. To promote this objective, AACE
awards academic scholarships to full-time students pursuing a related
degree in engineering, construction management, building construction,
computer sciences, business, quantity surveying, information
technology, etc. The cost engineering profession uses the process of
total cost management to identify and define those areas of business
in which the discipline of cost engineering and cost management
principles may be applied to plan and control resources, assets,
costs, profitability, and risk. The major elements of the cost
engineering discipline include estimating, project/product controls,
planning and scheduling, business sciences, and project/product
management.
AACE International scholarships are available in
amounts ranging from $2000 to $8000. Specific awards will be
determined based on your overall scholarship and collegiate
accomplishments.

Applicants must be currently enrolled full-time students who
are enrolled in a program related to cost engineering/cost management. These programs include:

Applicants in their final undergraduate year must have been accepted to attend a full-time graduate program in the next academic year to qualify for a scholarship.

Question:
What is the application period? Answer: Applications are accepted between January 1st and February
15th each year.
Question: I read on another website that your application period is
September 1 – October 15th. Why is it different on your website? Answer: The Education Board changed the application cycle in 2007.
Not all of the scholarship search websites on the internet have
changed their information to reflect that change.
Question: What is the award amount? Answer: Awards range from a top award of $8000 to a minimum of
$2000.
Question: If I win an award, when will I receive it? Answer: Award checks are sent to the schools of the winning
candidates in early August of the year in which you win an award.
Question: Am I eligible to apply if I am not a US or Canadian
citizen? Answer: Yes, as long as you are enrolled in a college or university
in the US or Canada, you may apply if you meet the other
requirements. Citizenship is not a requirement.
Question: Does the website have guidelines for submitting a good
application? Answer: Yes, at the following link, you will find a description of

Question: If I am in high school, but know what college I will be
attending in the fall, am I eligible to apply for the scholarship
competition? Answer: No, you will have to wait a year before applying. The
earliest you can apply is January 1 – Feb 15 of the year you are a
freshman.
Question: I am a senior this year. Am I eligible to apply? Answer: You are eligible only if you have been accepted to graduate
school.
Question: I have an extensive resume. May I skip completing the
application form and just send you my resume instead? Answer: No. The judging teams need to have all candidates’
information in the same format, so you must complete the online
application.
Important Dates
AACE International scholarships are awarded for
use in the fall term of the next academic year. The process follows
this cycle each year:
January 1 to February 15 – Obtain an application on campus or use one
of the electronic applications below
February 15 – By this date, applications must be received by AACE International. The mailing address is:

February 17 – All applications received electronically and by mail will
be forwarded from AACE Headquarters to the appropriate local AACE
Section (chapter) for the first round of judging.
March 1 – After the local sections’ judging committees have
reviewed all applications received, they submit the names of up to
four semi-finalists to AACE International Headquarters office by this
date.
March 1 to March 15 – AACE Headquarters distributes
semi-finalists applications to Education Board for second round of
judging
Spring Education Board Meeting – Education Board identifies finalists,
and makes determination of awards
July 1 – All candidates are notified of the results of the judging
August 1 – scholarship checks are mailed to the schools of the winners
Evaluation Criteria
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis
of academic performance (35%), extracurricular activities (35%), and
an essay (30%) on the value of study of cost engineering or total cost
management. The essay should explain why cost management will be
important in your career goals.
