AACE Announces Newest Certification – Certified Portfolio, Program & Project Manager (C3PM)
AACE International’s newest certification program has been designed around the demonstrated competency of project, program and portfolio managers as those professionals within an organization, responsible for the strategic implementation of portfolios, programs and projects in support of the organization's objectives, which includes roles as strategic planners, workforce professionals and communicators.

Update on C3PM:
AACE’s Certified Project, Program and Portfolio Manager (C3PM) certification offers AACE’s first credential designed to demonstrate competency in the performance and integration of project, program, and portfolio management. The C3PM will recognize those professionals whose primary job function is initiating, planning, controlling, executing, or closing of projects in the context of asset, operations, or project management.

Competency-based credentials are valuable because they evaluate job performance rather than emphasizing academic knowledge. Such ability to evaluate job performance for multiple levels of managers involved in the process of funding, planning, and execution of projects should lead to much more positive and consistent project results than are currently being realized in most organizations.

The C3PM will be achieved in three phases.

We are currently in Phase 1. AACE has already developed the competency standards based on the Global Alliance of Project Performance Standards (GAPPS). AACE is working to complete the endorsement application. The application will seek information on candidates’ educational history, outside certifications achieved, and behavioral characteristics and attributes.

In Phase 2, C3PM candidates collect and log evidence into their Work Experience Log Book. Candidates will be required to log verifiable work hours to document their work experience and expertise. Another Phase 2 requirement for C3PM candidates is to successfully complete required course work and to write a project management-related paper.

Phase 3 C3PM candidates will present their work experience, course work, project management paper, and any other pertinent information to a peer review team chosen from members of the C3PM Certification Board. The peer review team meets with the C3PM candidate to evaluate the candidate’s personal and professional qualities. Upon successful completion of Phase 3, the candidate will be awarded designated a Certified Project, Program and Portfolio Manager (C3PM).

Practitioners who earn the C3PM credential will gain international recognition as a professional highly competent to manage assets, operations, projects, programs and portfolios.
