Seattle Public Library

The Seattle Public Library’s home opened in 2004 & became internationally famous. The stunning steel & glass building is Seattle’s newest landmark with its grand public spaces, cityscape views, all-red meeting floor, and 30 miles of books arranged in the only Books Spiral in the world. Tillicum Village
Monday – 29 June 2009
Tour Price: US$85/person
Duration: 7:00pm – 11:00pm

An evening full of authenticity and traditional Native American culture, this Tillicum Village tour cruises from Seattle’s Pier 55 to Blake Island Marine State Park and Tillicum Village. Guests will enjoy a scenic 60-minute cruise to Blake Island, which includes a narrated tour of Seattle's Elliott Bay. Upon arrival, you are transported to “Puget Sound of the Past” complete with ceremonial longhouses, potlatches, war canoes, and Indian art. The native “Longhouse” remains one of the Northwest’s most natural settings to achieve the true Native American experience.

The feast begins with steamed clams & nectar followed by a traditional Native American salmon bake and a wonderful ‘Dance on the Wind’ stage show featuring Northwest Coast First Nations dances and legends. Dinner includes salmon, clams, potatoes, vegetables, rice, bread, several toppings and garnishes, and dessert. Chicken may be requested for those unable to eat seafood. Transportation to and from the hotel is included. The tour is approximately 4 hours and begins at 7:00 pm. Shuttle buses from the hotel will begin making trips to the Pier at 6:00 pm.  Limited number of tickets available. Register today!

Tacoma / Museum District

Duration: 9:00am – 3:00pm

A bus will depart the Sheraton Seattle Hotel at 9:00am for the Museum District of Tacoma, Washington. Here three major museums form an impressive triangle – the Museum of Glass, Tacoma Art Museum, and Washington State History Museum. Linking them is the spectacular Chihuly Bridge of Glass and historic Union Station, also filled with Chihuly glass art. Tour the museums, eat lunch, and shop at your own pace & meet the bus at 2:00pm for the trip back to Seattle. All of these cultural attractions are within easy walking distance of each other as well as a number of restaurants serving lunch, including Gallucci’s Glass Café in the Glass Museum. The bus will depart for the trip back to Seattle at 2pm. Some highlights of each attraction are listed below. Limited number of tickets available. Register today!

Museum of Glass & Hot Shop

  • Three galleries containing visiting exhibits of glass art, plus museum gift store and café
  • 144-seat Hot Shop Amphitheater where visitors watch artisans work with molten glass; housed in a landmark, 90-foot-tall cone

Tacoma Art Museum
  • State-of-the-art facility designed by famous architect Antoine Predock
  • Steel and glass architecture wraps around a central "stone garden" containing a "wave" of ancient pavers

Washington State History Museum
  • Interactive and multimedia exhibits on the state, its people, places and the industries that shaped it
  • Home of the largest collection of pioneer, Indian and Alaskan artifacts on the Pacific Coast

Chihuly Bridge of Glass
  • A unique piece of public art in the form of a 500-foot pedestrian bridge
  • Created by world-renowned artist and Tacoma native son Dale Chihuly and architect Arthur Andersson; owned by the City of Tacoma
  • One of Chihuly's largest outdoor installations, valued at $12 million
  • Three installations:
    • Seaform Pavilion with1,500 pieces of glass art overhead
    • Venetian Wall with109 jewel-toned glass creations on an 80-foot-long expanse
    • Crystal Towers – two, 30-foot-high, glacial-blue sculptures
  • Connects the Museum of Glass to the Washington State History Museum across Hwy. 705
Union Station
  • Landmark 1911 railway station with Romanesque architecture and striking copper dome
  • Rotunda exhibit of extraordinary glass sculptures by Dale Chihuly, included the stunning "Monarch" window with 27 glass forms and the "End of the Day chandelier, which is composed of 600 individually-blown glass shells and weighs one ton.
  • Built by the same architects who designed New York's Grand Central Station
  • Free and open to the public Mon.-Fri. (closed weekends)
Tour tickets are transferrable but non-cancellable. Ticketed tours are subject to cancellation based on minimum advance purchase requirements. Advance purchasers of cancelled ticketed events will receive a full refund.
