AACE International will present a special webinar, “Mentoring for Success: Three Perspectives” on November 13, 2013 at Noon Eastern Time. The free webinar will present mentoring from three different perspectives: the protégé/partner, the mentor and the company employing the protégé or mentor.
Julie Owen, CCP, PSP will present from the perspective of the mentor. Owen, Vice President of Regions, works for the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transit Authority and has been involved with the AACE International mentoring program from its inception. She has been both a mentor and a protégé/partner.
Presenting the protégé/partner’s perspective will be Dev Tamboli. Tamboli enrolled in the AACE International mentoring program and will share his perspective on the impact that mentoring has made on his career in cost engineering. Tamboli currently serves as the chair of the Mentoring Advisory Committee.
Milton “Bud” Mayr will offer his insight into the value of the mentoring process from a company perspective. Mayr has been responsible for overseeing the Chevron mentoring program for cost engineering and served as the Mentoring Advisory Committee in 2012-13. He will highlight why companies should encourage their employees to participate as both partners/protégés as well as mentors.
The webinar will also review the resources available to participants in the association’s mentoring program, including the Mentoring Handbook and mentoring agreement, the online mentor/partner matching program and other resources and recognition for participants. Additional Speaker Biographical Information:
Julie Owen has been involved with AACE since 1994. She is an AACE International Board Member serving five years on the Board as Vice President-Regions and past Director of Region 6. Julie is an active supporter of the AACE mentoring program since 2010 and involved mentoring several young professionals around the globe. She is a contributing member to the Young Professionals and Women in Project Controls committees.
Julie currently works as senior project control manager at LA Metro managing the $40 billion transportation expansion initiative. She worked her way up the management ladder holding positions such as project manager, assistant project manager, project engineer, construction manager, supervisor, scheduler, cost engineer and intern engineer. Through the years she worked on all sides of the table including owner, contractor, and construction manager and across multiple firms and industries including LA Metro, NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, McCarthy Building Companies, J.F. Shea Construction, Arcadis, and Parsons.
She holds certifications for Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) and Certified Cost Professional (CCP). Julie instructed the PSP certification prep course at AACE Annual Meetings for five years. She is past president of the Southern California section. She has master’s degree in business administration from University of Redlands and her bachelor’s degree in Construction Science from Texas A&M University.
Devdas Tamboli is an AACE member since 2010. In 2011 he participated in AACE mentoring program and became mentee with Julie Owen. Inspired He became Chair of the AACE Mentoring Advisory Committee in 2013. Over three 3 years he presented technical papers at both the ITCM conference in Dubai and the AACE Annual Meeting in Washington DC USA, both with his mentor Julie Owen.
Devdas Holds certification for Certified Cost Professional (CCP) and Planning and Scheduling Professional (PSP) from AACE along with Project Management Professional (PMP) from PMI USA. He holds bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering and Advanced Construction Management from NICMAR a leading institute in India.
Devdas has over 10 years of experience working in all side of tables including owner, contractor and consultants. He has worked in various positions such as Tendering Engineer, Planning Engineer, Assistant Project Manager and Planning Manager with reputed organizations like HCC, Mouchel and Nakheel in India and UAE. Currently he is associated with Kahramaa (Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation) a government utility company in Qatar as Projects Monitoring Engineer looking after program management of various projects running under Electricity Projects Department in value more than 3 billion US Dollars.
Bud Mayr is the Talent Management Advisor for Chevron’s Project Resources Company Cost Engineering (CE) Center of Expertise. In this position, Bud is responsible for helping to source and develop the cost engineering talent required to execute Chevron’s queue of major capital projects.
Prior to his current role, Bud held the position of Project Controls Manager within Project Resources Company. In this role, he was responsible for managing a team to provide project controls consultative services and labor support for Chevron early phase major capital projects and for assisting with implementing cost and schedule control systems.
Raised in Fairbanks, Alaska, Bud graduated in 1981 from the University of Alaska. That year, he joined Amoco Production Company in Anchorage, where he provided Materials Management, Logistics, and Project Controls support to several exploration and drilling projects in Alaska. Bud moved to Houston in 1990 and proceeded to work on projects in the Gulf of Mexico, Azerbaijan, China and Trinidad. From 1999–2004, Bud managed a team of consultants for a Houston consulting firm, providing Project Controls support to various firms including the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Authority, Chevron, BP, ExxonMobil, GlobalSantaFe, TotalFinaElf, Anadarko and others. He joined Chevron in 2004.
Bud is a member of AACE International and the Project Management Institute. He has given several presentations to both organizations throughout the years on lessons learned in project controls from the front lines.
