WPC event held at the 2006 AACE Annual Meeting
The 2006 AACE Annual meeting had many memorable events which afforded our members opportunities to meet and discuss issues which affect the larger population of the association. One of those special opportunities was a gathering of the Women in Project Controls Committee (WPC).

The group hosted a coffee for members who had a special interest in project controls and the WPC. The coffee was intended to bring together as many project controls professional women as possible, to discuss their experiences in the profession. In addition, it was an opportunity to bring to light issues which are not only important to women but also important to all project controls professionals.

Attendance varied throughout the event, as members wandered in and out of the gathering en route to and from other presentations at the Annual Meeting, creating an informal and collegial atmosphere. Approximately 20 members were present at the event. While enjoying coffee and cookies, many of the attendees provided insights into their individual experiences as project control professionals, including how they found themselves in the profession and what it is that keeps them in the profession. Each identified what is important to them, and all expressed the need to reach out to others who are project control professionals. Many indicated there are many other women within their respective companies who could and would benefit from membership in the Association.

Association board members and a representative from RICS attended the event. AACE President Jim Zack stated his commitment to support the Task Force.

As a result of the meeting, there was renewed interest in expanding the WPC outreach to attract those who could benefit from membership in the association. There was an expressed desire to expand the Cost Engineering spotlight article series on women in project controls, and a decision was made to continue the series through the end of the calendar year or longer. Several members stepped forward to volunteer with the WPC as board members and committee members, both at the event and throughout the Annual Meeting.

We thank Kildrummy for their generous corporate sponsorship of this event.
